  • The District Governor of the Rotary Club Charles Elliot spoke at Wednesday's Rotary Club at Phillips College. Elliot was on hand to present the Helena Rotarians an award for their fundraising efforts for the Rotary Foundation. The Helena Rotary Club ranked third largest per capita ($134) donor in the district during the 2012-2013 year. North Little Rock ranked first and West Memphis Rotarians ranked second. According to Rotarian Johnny McKenzie, eight Helena Rotary Club members received the Paul Harris Fellow award. The presentation of the Paul Harris Fellow is the Rotary Foundation's way of expressing its appreciation for the substantial contribution to its many programs. The distinction is named for Rotary founder Paul Harris, a Chicago lawyer, who started the organization with three other business associates in 1905. Rotarians often designated Paul Harris Fellow as a tribute to persons whose lives demonstrate a shared purpose with the objects of the Rotary Foundation. Local recipients of the Paul Harris Fellow distinction Wednesday were Allen Bartlo, Hayward A. Farris, Jimbo Boyd, West Hornor, Jim Frazier, Wes Freemyer, Neala Wilson and Al Haraway. The Helena-West Helena Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at noon at PCCUA.
