Sponsored by the Mu Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, an area Youth Summit will be held from 10 a.m. until noon at the Boys & Girls Club of Phillips County this Saturday, Oct. 26. Young people are encouraged to “come, hear, see and participate” in the event.
Kyle Miller, a Phillips County native, will be the keynote speaker. Miller is an educator, writer, producer, minister and professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Community leaders will conduct a variety of breakout sessions. The participants are expected to include Helena-West Helena Police Chief Uless Wallace, Avis Donahoo, RN, Florida Burnside, graduation coach, Shawn Payne, Phillips County Cooperative Extension Service, staff chair and Verna Boyd, Zumba instructor.
High school students also will participate in a round table discussion.
The Teen Summit is designed to be a day of activities to provide informed dialogue aimed at academic and social development, careers, health and wellness, preparation for college, conflict resolution, wise choices and more. Students in grades 6-12 from all area schools are invited to attend. Parents also are encouraged to attend.
