Marvell-Elaine Elementary School students enjoyed a musical program presented by Blues in the Schools. The Memphis based Blues Foundation provides the Blues in the Schools program to enhance subjects such as social studies, English, music, art and character education. A visual slideshow depicting historical figures in the blues movement with an emphasis on musicians from the Delta was shown during a musical concert. The musicians had travelled from Great Britain for the King Biscuit Blues Festival and made Marvell-Elaine Elementary one of their stops. Students learned of the rich cultural heritage found in the Delta and enjoyed blues music. They were also given information on the importance of the right kind of friendship. Students danced, clapped, snapped their fingers and sang during the concert. Students were also able to showcase their talents on stage with the band.
