  • There were plenty of offensive fireworks in the Marvell Academy's Eagles gridiron battle with the Humphreys Academy Rebels Friday night. Believe it or not, the Eagles put 48 points on the scoreboard and it still wasn't enough as the Rebels managed to tally 52. “I was very proud of our kids,” commented Marvell Academy head coach Ben Durham. “They matched Humphreys' physicalness and when we got down they never gave up.” Caleb Gannon produced 155 yards rushing on 14 carries, scoring three touchdowns. Jared Williams netted 80 yards on the ground on 12 carries and two touchdowns. Collin White had 112 yards on just five carries and added a touchdown. On defense, White nailed seven tackles. Williams contributed three tackles. “We had a chance to win with just 15 seconds but we didn't have any time outs left and we simply couldn't get the play off.” The loss drops the Eagles' record to 1-5 for the season. They draw an open date this Friday night but return to action Oct. 18 when they host Strider Academy. The win lifts the Rebels' record to 3-4.
