  • Melvin Gamble Sr., 45, of Helena-West Helena, passed away Sept. 25, 2013 in Helena. Brother Melvin Charles Gamble Sr. was born March 25, 1968 to the late Rev. Lewis Charles Gamble Sr. and the late Mrs. Ruby Lee Johnson Gamble in Elaine. On Jan. 10, 1982, Rev. L.C. Gamble married Dorotha Hughes. Melvin was raised by God-fearing, loving and determined parents. All of who preceded him in death. Melvin gave his life to Christ at an early age. Being raised in a home that was full of singing, Bible studies and many other things lead Melvin to serve as a member of the junior choir and the junior male chorus at the Gumwood M.B. Church. As time passed, Melvin found his place at the New Haven M.B. Church, where he served in many capacities until he was called from labor. Melvin attended the Elaine Public School System where he graduated in May 1986. He developed a passion for driving trucks. He attended Crowley's Ridge Technical Institute in Forrest City and graduated in 1998 with a tractor-trailer driving certificate. Among the many things that Melvin enjoyed, such as fishing and playing dominoes, most importantly he enjoyed spending time with his family. Melvin was a father to many children in need of one throughout the Helena-West Helena community. He was helper to any and all in need. He leaves to cherish his memory, six children, Meldrick Gibson of Little Rock, Dykeishia (Roosevelt) Eaton of Helena, Shameka (Russell) Roddy of Memphis, Tenn., Phoenicia (Jimmy) Ewing, Ruby Gamble and Melvin Gamble, all of Helena; a childhood sweetheart of 30 years, Sherrye. (Melvin and Sherrye married July 13, 1993). He also leaves seven grandchildren, Zaria, Meldrick Jr., Roosevelt Jr., I'Yanna, Kayvonn, Meleah, Ji'Myah and Madison; a special friend, LaQuetta English; and six children, Jactavias Walker, Jacob Walker, Jordan Franklin, Josiah Walker, Job Eaton and Jedidiah Eaton. His memory is also cherished by nine brothers, Curtis Gamble, Rick (Carla) Clements and Frank Hampton, all of Helena, Perry (Barbara) Clements of Marion, Marlon Gamble, Fredrick (Cynthia) Gamble and Sedric Gamble, all of Helena-West Helena, Necole Gamble of Memphis and Lewis (Mica) Gamble Jr. of Jonesboro; seven sisters, Betty (Leonard) Davis of Chicago, Ill., Alice Ross, Shelly Gamble, Lavern Clements, all of Little Rock, AR; Oreatte Gamble of Jacksonville, Fla., Rachel (William) Sykes and Sherlona Riley of Helena; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, aunts and uncles. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 in the Kincaid Funeral Services West Chapel. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at New Haven M.B. Church. Pastor Rodney Corbin will officiate. Burial will follow in Jackson Memorial Garden. Arrangements are entrusted to Kincaid Funeral Services. The online guest book is at www.kincaidfuneralservices.com.
