On a day when voter turnout was extremely light, challenger Evelyn Jackson Thomas defeated incumbent Rosetta R. Davis in the race for the Zone 1 seat on the Barton-Lexa School Board.
According to the unofficial results obtained from election officials, Thomas ousted Davis by a count of 64 to 47, or 57.66 percent to 42.34 percent.
Davis had resigned from the Barton-Lexa School Board earlier this year and the board appointed former Lake View School Superintendent Leon Phillips to fill the vacated Zone 1 post.
Davis decided to run for her former slot and filed for re-election.
Barton-Lexa was the only district in Phillips County to have a contested race in this year's school election. There also were no millage increases on the ballots.
The voting data shows that only 150 ballots were cast in the 2013 school election – only 46 on election day. Fifty-six voted early and 48 voted absentee.
