Charley Wells was born on March 25, 1942 to Robert and Curleen Wells.
Charley professed a hope in Christ at an early age.
Charley worked for the Chrysler Motor Co. for 30 years and retired from there. He later moved back to Arkansas and made that his home for 17 years. He served as a deacon at New Light Missionary Baptist Church until his health began to fail. He was dedicated to helping the sick, the elderly, and working with the missionaries.
Charley loved his family and grandchildren. He also loved fishing and farming. If Mr. Charley saw a need in the community he would give his best effort to offer assistance.
Charley passed away on Sept. 16, 2013 at Helena Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
His parents, Robert and Curleen Wells, Sr., his brothers, Roy Wells, Arthur Wells, Richard Wells, Marvin Wells, Curtis Wells, and sisters, O'Dean Davis and Thelma Tillman, preceded him in death.
Charley leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 30 years, Winifred Wells; two sons, LaDale (Irene) Wells and Charley Wells Jr., both of Lexa; three daughters, Rekiba (Jason) Festerman, Patricia McClendon and Necie McClendon, all of Michigan; four brothers; Robert Wells Jr. of New York, Earsell (Erma) Wells of Helena-West Helena, Arvil Wells and LeArtrouis Wells of Michigan; a sister, Curleen (Johnny) Sumpter of Barton; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and dear friends.
Funeral services for Charley Wells will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21at New Light M.B. Church. Rev. Edward Wade will officiate the service.
Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 at the church. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery.
