  • Three juvenile suspects, two 16-year-olds and a 14-year-old faced Phillips County Circuit Court Judge L.T Simes regarding their alleged involvement in the reported rape of a 14-year-old girl at a dental clinic in Helena. Police reported that the 16-year-old suspects were wearing GPS ankle monitors issued by the juvenile courts for previous charges. Arkansas State Police recently investigated a report that one of the 16-year- old suspects allegedly raped a male inmate while he was incarcerated in the White River Detention Center. Police reported that both 16 year olds were facing charges for their alleged involvement in the April shooting of Radio Station KJIW owner Elijah Mondy, who was attempting to help someone, he thought at the time, was seriously injured. Attorney Robby Goldman, representing one of the 16-year-olds, asked the court to revisit the bond order. Bond was denied. Goldman's juvenile client pled not guilty to the charges and waived the right to formal arraignment. Simes ordered that jury trial be set for Nov. 12. Attorney Vandall Bland, representing the other 16-year-old suspect, stated that his client pled not guilty and also waived the formal arraignment. Simes advised that Bland's client was facing charges of rape, a Class Y felony. His jury trial also was set for Nov. 12. Simes ordered that his bond be set at $250,000. Simes told the 14-year-old suspect that he also was being charged with rape. Simes set an Oct. 21 appearance as the accused requested additional time to find an attorney. Simes stated that the suspect's charges did not reflect any involvement in the case and set bond at $250,000. In another court matter, three suspects faced charges in the Mondy shooting incident. Frank Ross Jr., 18, of Helena was charged with attempted aggravated robbery, battery in the 1st degree and carrying a weapon. Ross' bond was set at $3.55 million. Ross requested a reduction of his bond, which was set at a $250,000. Ross is due to appear in court on Nov. 12. Goldman representing his 16-year-old client, who is also facing rape charges, requested a bond, which was denied. The juvenile suspects are being held at White River Detention Center in Batesville.
