  • There are four fewer active meth labs in the county thanks to the involvement of a local postal worker and the investigative efforts of two Phillips County Sheriff's deputies. While conducting an investigation of a burglary suspect, Lt. Sylvester Rose and Deputy Tommie Biven discovered a meth lab and clothing belonging to the suspect in an abandoned trailer on Holly Street Wednesday morning. After talking with neighbors, Rose and Biven checked out an abandoned trailer next door and turned up two additional meth labs that were ready for production. According to the Sheriff's Department incident report, all three labs were confiscated and taken to the PCSO's Criminal Investigation Division. The report states that charges are still pending. On Saturday Sept. 7, the sheriff's department received a phone call from a postal employee who reported finding a backpack on the side of the road at the intersection of Phillips County 300 Road and County Road 313. The PCSO incident report stated that Deputy Bennie Daniels arrived at the scene and found an active meth lab. The components were turned over to CID where they were destroyed.
