Mary Beth Davenport Herlein, 84, of Harrison, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 2, 2013 in Harrison.
Beth was born, Oct. 22, 1928, in Grant County, to the late Joseph Beecher and the late Willie Brad Davenport, of Benton. She was a 1946 graduate of Benton High School and attended Arkansas Tech University where she was a cheerleader for the Wonder Boys.
There she met her late husband, Philip Charles "Duke" Herlein Jr. They were married in January 1947, and moved to Helena. Beth served as secretary-treasurer of Helena Electric Company, Inc., her husband's company. She was a former member of the National Association of Junior Auxiliary and she served as a national treasurer. She was a 3-time president of the Helena Country Club Ladies Golf Association and was an avid Mahjong player. She was also a member of Mary Mother of God Catholic Church in Harrison.
She leaves three daughters, Phyllis "Philly" Rains, of Harrison, Peggy Sims (Jim) of Blytheville, Mary Beth Dyer (Everett) of Clarendon; a son, Philip Charles "Chuck" Herlein III, of Marion; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and a sister, Joan Hopkins, of Benton.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. at Roller Citizens Funeral Home in Helena-West Helena on September 14 with a private burial in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. An open reception will follow at the memorial at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Helena.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Helena, Mary Mother of God Catholic Church, Harrison, or the Humane Society of the Delta, Helena-West Helena.
