Bouncing back nicely from an opening night rout, the Marvell Eagles began to soar again with an impressive 58-13 victory over Friendship Christian here last Friday night. Marvell Academy (1-1) scored 42 of its points in the opening period. Collin White, Caleb Gannon, Josh Mullinax and Larry Parker handled the scoring chores for the Eagles. White scored on a punt return, tossed a 33-yard touchdown strike to Gannon and ran 15 yards for another score. Besides hauling in White's 33-yard scoring aerial, Gannon added a rushing TD of his own and finished the night with 115 yards on just three carries. Josh Mullinax scored a pair of TDs in the second quarter on runs of 68 and 25 yards. Larry Parker had a touchdown run of 58 yards in the third quarter. “It was a good win over a team just starting a program,” stated first-year head football coach Ben Durham. “We have to execute better in all phases of the game to compete for the playoffs.” Defensively, Daniel Clatworthy was all over the filed making six tackles for the Eagles. Jared Williams had five tackles, had two quarterback sacks and added a safety in the third quarter. Marvell Academy continues its home stand tonight against Delta Academy (1-1). The Raiders nipped Calhoun Academy 26-24 last Friday night. Game time is 7 p.m.
