Melissa “Bug” Grider Hill went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Aug. 30, 2013. Her husband, Larry Hill, her parents, Luther and Thelma Caviness Grider, a brother, Dallas Grider and a sister, Ivie Dunavan, preceded her in death. Melissa was born at Connell's Point on June 15, 1920. She graduated from Marvell High School in 1940 and attended Business College in Little Rock. On April 4, 1942 she married the love of her life, Lawrence C. ”Larry” Hill. Larry and Melissa moved to Helena-West Helena and made it their home. They were married for 63 years until Larry's death in 2005. Melissa was a dedicated homemaker for those years, caring for her husband, children, parents and siblings. She has been a member of First Baptist Church in Helena since 1952. During her time at First Baptist, Melissa taught Sunday School for many years in the Children's Department. Melissa leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Nancy (Earl) Smith; a son, Raymond (Theresa) Hill; four grandchildren, Robert Hill, Ryan Hill, Steven Smith and Stacie Bailey; and six great-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews and friends.
