A prosecutor in east Arkansas says he was improperly removed from a capital murder case in Phillips County because he was alleged to be under investigation.
Prosecutor Fletcher Long said Tuesday he has not been told he or a deputy prosecutor are targets in a federal corruption probe. Long says Circuit Judge L.T. Simes misinterpreted the law when he named a special prosecutor to try 25-year-old Tony Bernard Smith in the 2011 death of Michael Campbell.
Long told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette he has not testified before a grand jury.
The FBI says the Delta Blues investigation into drug dealing and government corruption is continuing. Long says investigators likely looked at the performance of numerous public officials.
Simes said he wouldn't comment on a pending case.
