Just in time for the King Biscuit Blue's Festival and other Helena-West Helena events, the Helena Advertising & Promotions Commission announces that a tourism website has been launched for Helena. The website encourages online viewers to explore Helena by list of events or interests which includes Civil War Helena, Delta blues and beyond, museums and attractions, and of course festival events.
The website also features a where to shop guide to many of the locally owned boutiques, provides travel tools and local listings for shopping, dinning out and lodging.
“We're excited to have a new online presence for Helena and the surrounding area. The site helps show off Helena's historic sites and natural assets at their best,” stated Julia Malinowski, director of the HA&PC. “It also provides information about our great shops and restaurants, and upcoming events. Today, most people plan their vacations online, so it's important for us to have this information available all in one place.”
What is the Helena Advertising & Promotion (A&P) Commission?
Ordinance 5 of the Helena-West Helena City Council created the Advertising and Promotion Commission in 2006 to administer the Advertising and Promotion Fund. Two percent of all revenues generated by the local hotel, motel and restaurant tax are credited to the A&P Fund and made available for purposes determined by the A&P Commission.
The A&P Fund can be used for the following purposes:
• Advertising and promoting the city and its environs through various forms
• Construction, reconstruction, extension, improvement, maintenance and operation of a convention center or tourist promotion center
• Operation of tourist-oriented facilities including theme parks and family entertainment facilities; and
• Construction, reconstruction, extension, improvement, maintenance and operation of public recreation facilities.
The Helena Advertising and Promotion Commission consists of seven commissioners. Two from the hotel industry, two from the restaurant industry, two city council members and one at large position. Commissioners must live in Helena. The commissioners meet the first Thursday of the month at city hall.
