The Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, Arkansas No Kid Hungry Campaign, the Arkansas Governor's Office and the Arkansas Department of Human Services Health and Nutrition unit invite you to join then for the 2013 Summer Meals Tour on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 10:15 a.m. to noon. Churches, community centers, summer camps, Boys & Girls Clubs, schools, housing authorities and other civic groups participating in the Summer Meals Program are reimbursed weekly by USDA for their food costs to feed children in their communities.
The group will be visiting a couple of these sites during the tour. Hopefully, the Summer Meals Tour will help individuals and organizations decide to encourage groups in the community to participate in this very important program.
For too many children, free and reduced price school lunches are the only meals they can depend on getting regularly. This puts them at special risk in the summer when school is not in session.
The USDA Summer Food Service Program provides reliable access to meals for at-risk children during the summer. Currently, 192 USDA Summer Meals sponsors are serving lunch to children at 842 sites across Arkansas.
Schedule of Events: Thursday Aug. 1
