Phillips College in partnership with the Marvell-Elaine School District gave students and opportunity to study about the Mars Rover Mission. Besides the Mars Rover Mission the students studied rollers coasters. NASA hosted these activities.
The roller coaster activity gave students hands-on experiences showing them how much potential and kinetic energy it takes to move an object either up or down a track. This is the first step in learning about how rockets are launched. The culmination of this activity will slowly evolve over the next few years with this partnership.
The GEAR UP Program encourages curiosity, creativity and the drive to learn about the scientific inquiry methods integrating math, science and technology. They are helping each students build that strong foundation in math and science thereby creating a path to college or any trade they want to achieve.
