Debra Diane Handley Smith passed on July 9, 2013 at her daughter's home in Southaven, Miss.
On Oct. 20, 1959, Debra Diane Handley, affectionately known as "Coot" was the fifth child born to Arsmon and Rebecca Handley Sr. in Chicago, Ill. at Cook County Hospital.
She Attended the Chicago Public Schools and St. Bernard Catholic School. Debra confessed her faith to Christ at an early age. In 2010, Debra re-confessed her faith to Christ as an adult at Freedonia Missionary Baptist Church.
On July 9, 2013, Debra was called home to rejoin her parents, Arsmon and Rebecca and a nephew, Michael Haymer, who preceded her in death.
Although Debra has left us in body, her spirit lives on through her loved ones.
Debra leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Hosie Smith; her daughters, Dorthia Handley-Wilson (Curtis) and Stacy Frazier of Kenosha, Wis., Wania Frazier-Elrod (Trenton) of Fort Worth, Texas and Latonya Harris-Baylark (Marcus) of Helena-West Helena; a son, Christopher Lemark Frazier of Kenosha; 17 grandchildren; Sgt. Darrius Coopwood, U.S. Army, Aaron, Nykita, Kadaijah, Brittany, Kavadous, Christian, Pariasha, Tracey, Jahaun, Savannah, Trenton Jr., Avory, LaTia, Marcus Jr., Anthony, Aiden; a step granddaughter; Shaniya; and a great-great granddaughter Skylynn Brielle.
Debra also leaves four siblings, Dorothy Handley-Randle and Eugene Handley of Helena-West Helena, Arsmon Handley Jr. of Atlanta, Ga. and Eula Yvonne Handley-Curtis of Olympia Fields, Ill.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services for Debra Diane Smith will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20at New Light M.B. Church. Rev. Ronald Broussaurd Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Oakgrove No. 3 Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 19 in the Robert Lee Brown Memorial Chapel.
