New Zion Community Center on Ladino in Helena- West Helena is offering a cool place to go the last few weeks before school starts. The Center also offers well-balanced meals provided by the Special Nutrition Program through the division of Arkansas Department of Human Services.
From now until Aug. 12, local children get an opportunity to meet new friends, get involved in educational activities and stay off the streets.
As the result of a grant funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the children of the area are able to enjoy healthy breakfasts and lunches while enjoying the company of their peers. Each child is provided with breakfast every morning from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Summer activities provided for the children include water slides, outside activities, games and educational activities.
For many of the staff at New Zion, it's the reassurance that they are able to provide a safe place for the kids to turn to instead of them looking to the streets for entertainment.
