Gussie Mae Newsome, 100, of Marvell, passed away June 27, 2013 at Helena Regional Medical Center. Gussie Mae Newsome was born Gussie Mae Pellam Oct. 20, 1912 in Marvell to Margaret Williams and Charles Pellam. She confessed a hope in Christ at age 12 and joined King Solomon M.B. Church. She met and married Eddie Newsome in 1935 and moved to Chicago in 1937. Along the way, they became the foster parents of her niece, Ernestine Hester, after the death of her sister. She trained and became a nurse. She was active in her career and service to the church for most of her life. Gussie Mae Newsome celebrated her 100th birthday last year. Her parents, her husband and her siblings preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory, a nephew, Sedell Ivy, of Marvell; a great-niece, Doris Ivy Jackson of Marvell; an adopted niece, Mary Bailey of Memphis, Tenn.; and a host of other great-nieces and great-nephews. Funeral services for Gussie M. Newsome will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Mt. Olive M.B. Church at Marvell. Rev. Ricky Hulbert will officiate the service. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, July 5 in the Robert Lee Brown Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Mt. Olive M.B. Church Cemetery.
