Kortni Washburn, of Marvell, has been named preschool dance instructor at Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas for 2013-2014. Washburn currently teaches high school music appreciation and speech, 6th grade music and English and 7 and 8th grade fine arts classes at DeSoto School. A 2006 graduate of Marvell Academy, she holds a B.S. degree in music theory, vocal performance and education from Delta State University. Acknowledged for her outstanding talent, Washburn received a vocal scholarship to DSU and won the Arkansas State Fair Talent Grand Champion Award in 2009. She was a PCCUA dancer for 15 years, a member of the Delta State Choir Delta Singers from 2006-2010, is a past PCCUA scholarship recipient and served as a national choreographer for the Miss National Pre-Teen Program in Orlando, Fla., for seven years. No stranger to the PCCUA stage, she has appeared in numerous theatrical and musical productions produced by PCCUA and Helena Little Theatre including “The Wizard of Oz,” “The King and I,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “South Pacific,” “Annie,” Christmas shows, Valentine's shows, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” and “Steel Magnolias.” Most recently, she wowed audiences in the lead role of Cinderella in “Cinderella.” A master of singing, acting and dance, Washburn also enjoys reading, playing the mandolin and directing the choir at Marvell United Methodist Church. Active in the community, Washburn serves as a board member of Helena Little Theatre and the Tri-County Fair and is involved in the Marvell United Methodist Church and Costa Rica Mission for One mission team.
