  • Break-in attempt foiled

  • On June 20, 49-year old Excel Evans III was arrested on charges of attempted commercial burglary, criminal mischief and possession of instrument of crime. Phillips County Deputy Bennie Daniels witnessed Evans beating on the back door of First Choice Insurance Agency trying to break in.

  • On June 20, 49-year old Excel Evans III was arrested on charges of attempted commercial burglary, criminal mischief and possession of instrument of crime. Phillips County Deputy Bennie Daniels witnessed Evans beating on the back door of First Choice Insurance Agency trying to break in. Cpl. Lee Reddix reported that Evans was given a verbal order to get on the ground and he complied without further incident. Evans admitted to using a hammer that was found at the scene to knock the doorknob off in an attempt to enter the building. Evans was placed under arrest and transported to the Helena West Helena Police Dept. Evans Bond was set at $100,000. Evans arrest was due to a prior incident that happened June 11 when police officers and a deputy sheriff arrested him for trying to break into First Choice Insurance. Evans is currently being held at Cross County jail.
