On May 22, 2013, God sent one of his angels to escort his little angel, Makayla home.
Makayla Shonta Hawkins was born on March 7, 2006 in Helena to Lakari Collett Hawkins and Lester Lee Eaton.
Makayla attended Greater First Baptist. Makayla also attended Kids for the Future, Westside Elementary and was presently a student at KIPP in Ms. Olson's 1st grade class.
Makayla was a special and gifted child to all who knew and loved her. She made many friends. Makayla loved school and to read and write. Her hobbies included riding her bike, being with her friends, Rihanna Banks, Bristle, Tomeshia and Caneshia and just walking and spending time with her Grannie Rita.
Makayla is preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Eula Mae and Andrew Hawkins Sr., Lucille McGee, George Erby and a special family friend and godmother Dorletha Tobar.
Makayla leaves to cherish her loving memory; her mother, Lakari Hawkins; her father, Lester Lee Eaton; her grandparents, Rita Erby, who raised her from birth, John Wesley (Rita) Hawkins, Mae Eaton, a special family friend, Pat White; her uncles, O'Dell Hawkins, Joshua Hawkins and Timothy Baber; her aunts, Tykeemia Johnson and Amanda Larkins, a very special aunt Willie Mae (Elgie) Williams; a host of great uncles, aunts, cousins, a godmother, Kierra Banks and dear friends and classmates.
Funeral services for Makayla Shonta Hawkins will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1 at New Haven M.B. Church with Dr. Nathaniel Hull, Sr. officiating the service.
Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, May 31 in the Robert Lee Brown Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Gardens at Lexa.
