  • A generous and significant gift from a Phillips County organization has been given to the Methodist Family Health Foundation. St. Francis Ministries of Phillips County recently gifted the Ophelia Polk Moore Group Home and 2.5 acres of property near Lexa to the Foundation. Since its construction by St. Francis Ministries and dedication on Dec. 4, 2005, the home has been operated as a residential therapeutic group home for girls, thanks to an operational lease agreement between St. Francis Ministries and Methodist Family Health. The ministry leased the property, located on Phillips Road 251 near Lexa, to Methodist Family Health for $1 per year. With the recent transaction, the home is now the property of Methodist Family Health. The home will be continue to be called the Ophelia Polk Moore home in memory of the daughter of Naomi H. Moore. Designed to accommodate eight youth and live-in teaching parents, the spacious, pillared, red brick home was built for the express purpose of providing a place that would serve as a foster home for children and change the lives of disadvantaged youth in Phillips County. “St. Francis Ministries has truly been our partner in making this a special place and a loving, caring home for the girls who have lived here,” said Ashley Coldiron, executive director of the Methodist Family Health Foundation. “The board members and supporters have volunteered, worked on the care and upkeep of the house and shown such great love for the girls.” Methodist Family Health is “grateful that St. Francis Ministries has gifted this home and has the faith in us that we will continue Mrs. Moore's legacy,” Coldiron says.
