On Sept. 14, 1934 Gervis “Buddy” Carter Sr. was born to the late James and Ruby Carter in Beulah, Miss.
Gervis confessed a hope in Christ and later moved his membership to St. Luke Baptist Church.
Gervis met his future wife, Threathe Carter on Sept. 28, 1961, and to this union seven children were born.
Affectionately known as “Uncle Buddy,” he provided a solid foundation for his family and the family of many others that knew him.
Gervis enlisted as a soldier in the Army in 1957 at age 22 was honorably discharged in 1959. He held many occupations, but was a dedicated employee of Hine and Bud Alexander Farms for many years. From there he became an employee of Helena Wholesale, was later employed by Goodyear for more than 20 years and retired from Firestone after 22 years. He worked on Rohrscheib Farm until his health declined in 2012.
On Friday, April 19, 2013 Gervis Carter, at his home, the Love of God separated the body from the spirit of our beloved father.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.W. Carter, his mother, Ruby Mae Carter, grandmother, Frances Mitchell, a son, Jackie L. Alexander, a sister, Annie Lee Randle and grandchildren, Frederick Carter, Jamarcus Kern and Christian Kern.
His life and legacy will be treasured by his wife, Threathe Carter of 52 years; 8 children, Gervis Carter Sr. (Jennifer) of Helena-West Helena, Freddie Carter (Dionne) of Lexa, Sandra Wilson (Larry) of Helena-West Helena, Stevie Carter of Helena-West Helena, Theresa Kern of Houston Texas, Terry Carter (Gwendolyn) of Helena, Sharon Heard (Johnny) of Helena-West Helena; 31 grandchildren, 9 great- grandchildren; 3 brothers, James Carter (Willie Mae) of Helena-West Helena, Leroy Carter of Helena-West Helena Ark, Allen Carter of Greenville, Miss.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 26 in the Jackson – Highley Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 27 at New Haven Missionary Baptist Church.
Interment will follow immediately in Jackson Memorial Cemetery at Southland.
