  • Arthur James Davis III, 33, of Barton, affectionately known as J.R., passed away on April 16, 2013 at his home surrounded by family. He was born July 11, 1979 in Little Rock to Arthur James Davis Jr. and Ola Jackson-Davis Woods at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Hospital. He was the third of three sons. He received Christ and was baptized at Faith Temple M.B. Church in Little Rock. After being relocating to Lake View at an early age, he joined the First Baptist Church at Lake View. He attended school at Lake View Elementary where he stayed on the honor roll, Barton High and later obtained his GED. He graduated in the top 10 of his class at the Diesel Driving Academy where he received his Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Hill and Hill Construction Co. and later Maud Elevators employed Arthur. Arthur was a people person who never met a stranger. He would have you laughing your heart out. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and relatives. He was friendly, happy and charming and could always put a smile on your face. He was a very generous person. Whatever he set his mind to do, he did it. He was not a sit down type of guy. He was on the move. And though he never married, he had many loves. His brother, Carlos Demond Davis, preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Ola Jackson (Albert) Woods of Helena-West Helena; his father, Arthur James (Kathy) Davis Jr. of Grand Kane, La.; his grandmother, Gussie Lee Williams, of North Little Rock; five brothers, Mark Antonio Davis of Jacksonville, Arthello Davis of North Little Rock, Shem Woods of Omaha, Neb., Albert L. Woods Jr. of Safford, Ariz., Quartet Williams of Grady; five sisters, LeaVannah (Cloy) Whittington of St. Louis, Azzie Lee Woods of Helena-West Helena, Keerica Woods, of Omaha, Katrina Davis Washington of Chicago, Shermeshia Calvin, of Jacksonville; 15 uncles, Willie Jackson, Danny Jackson, Quinton Jackson, Anthony (Sadie) Jackson, Anthony Davis, Dan Toney Davis, Cleveland Williams Jr., Willie Williams, Melvin Allison, Floyd Dunlap, Johnny Woods, Leon Woods, Earnest Woods, Tommie Davis; 14 aunts, Thelma (Edward) Evans, Velma (Hillery) Gray, Joyce (Anthony) Lofton, Evelyn Thomas, Meshall (Devin) Winnegan, Viola Denise (Daniel) Seals, Ulysses (Mike) Freemon, Lessie Webster, Linda Pruitt, Linett Williams, Luevenia (Odell) Davis, Eloise Williams, Benita Williams-Kidd, Theresa Jackson; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Arthur James Davis III will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20 at the P.L.M.&D District Center. Visitation will be Friday, April 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Robert Lee Brown Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
