The 19-year-old stepson of Jimmy McClain, 49, has been charged with first-degree murder in the February shooting death of the Ridgeway High School Basketball coach according to WMC-TV Channel 5 out of Memphis.
McClain was found shot to death in his Cordoba, Tenn. home on Feb. 22. He was reportedly shot multiple time times by a .40 caliber gun.
When formally charged, Dwayne Moore was already behind bars on a burglary charge in which he is accused of stealing an AR-15 Bushmaster assault rifle. Law enforcement officials told the Memphis TV station that the rifle was not the murder weapon.
Police have not indicated what the motive for the murder was but did report that Moore was probably not an invited guest at the McClain's residence. Moore is the son of McClain's estranged wife.
Moore's defense attorney claims Moore and McClain were not having any problems. Moore reportedly lived with McClain during some of his teenage years and had access to the house.
Investigators also are checking into the possibility as to whether or not anyone else was involved in the crime.
McClain was a former college basketball standout at the University of Central Arkansas where he was a teammate of former Chicago Bulls Scottie Pippen. He was an Elaine High School graduate and served as minister of the Johnson Street Church of Christ in Benton, Arkansas.
