Musician Jason Molina of Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co. died on Saturday, his record label Secretly Canadian announced Monday. He was 39.
Molina died in his Indianapolis home of "natural causes," though some reports say he died of organ failure from alcohol abuse.
As a solo artist, Molina created the bands Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co. for which he'd enlist other musicians for individual projects as needed. He had released over a dozen albums with the bands.
"Jason is the cornerstone of Secretly Canadian," read a statement on the label's website. "Without him there would be no us - plain and simple. His singular, stirring body of work is the foundation upon which all else has been constructed... We're going to miss Jason. He was generous. He was a one of a kind. And he had a voice unlike any other."
