First responders and military personnel in Phillips County will have access to help prepare free tax returns and some estate planning advice at a special event to be held Saturday, March 9 in the lobby of Southern Bancorp at 502 Cherry St. in Helena.
Attorneys and IRS-certified volunteer tax preparers will be available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The volunteers will be able to prepare wills, advance directives and powers of attorney for health care and financial matters plus help prepare 2012 tax returns for first responders, veterans and active duty military personnel and their families.
Firefighters, police officers, active duty military personnel and reservists, veterans and emergency health care workers and their spouses are eligible. They can participate by scheduling a free appointment online at www.arlegalservices.org/deltaforce. Walk-ins also are accepted.
Attorneys from the Phillips County Bar Association, Legal Aid of Arkansas and other pro bono attorneys are providing the legal services. Volunteer tax preparers from Southern Bancorp and Southern Bancorp Community Partners are offering the tax preparation services.
