• Body found in trunk of charred car

  • The Phillips County Sheriff's Office and Arkansas State Police responded to a call around 12:30 a.m. Friday regarding what the caller described an explosive-like sound in the area of County Road 358 near Poplar Grove.
    Sgt. Sylvester Rose and Lt. Bryan Holloway arrived first at the scene and discovered a charred vehicle about 260 feet from the highway in a wooded area.
    Sheriff Neal Byrd reported that on further investigation, deputies found the human remains of an unidentified victim in the trunk of the vehicle believed to be a Crown Victoria.
    At this time, there is no information available concerning that owns the vehicle. A person of interest is currently being questioned.
