Lewis Johnson Jr., 76, of Helena-West Helena, passed away Feb.13, 2013 in Little Rock. Mr. Lewis, also known as “Junior,” was born on Feb. 26, 1936 in Birdie, Miss. to the late Lewis Johnson sr. and Mrs. James Etta Jones-Johnson. He accepted Christ at an early age at Antioch Baptist Church in Rich, Miss. At the age of 17 he married Lillie Mae Williams and to this union 12 children were born. They moved to Helena in 1954. In 1955 he joined Silver Cloud Church. Mr. Lewis was a faithful choir member until his health failed him. He loved singing and he formed his own personal choir, the Johnson Family. On Feb. 13, 2013 he answered his calling from the Lord and departed this life, bided farewell and went home to be with the Lord. He leaves a wife of 57 years, Lillie Mae Johnson; 10 children, James Lewis Williams (Karen) of Helena-West Helena, Leroy Johnson (Susan) of Hot Springs, Arthur Johnson (Mae Sue) of Memphis, Shirley Stevenson (Johnny) of Helena-West Helena, Barbara Smith (Kim) of Helena-West Helena, Carolyn Huff (John) of Helena-West Helena, Anthonell Johnson of Memphis, Ricky Johnson (Amy) of Memphis, Donald Johnson (Patricia) of Memphis and Robin Johnson of Memphis; 4 sisters, Rose Walker of Cairo, Ill., Annie Smart (Robert) of Chicago, Mary Washington of Chicago, Earnestine Evans of Chicago; a brother, Luther Washington Jr. of Florida, 2 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Silver Cloud M.B. Church. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23at New Haven M.B. Church. Rev. Amos Newell Jr. will officiate.
