Cleaster Glass, 97, of Chicago and formerly of Marvell, passed away at her home Feb. 17, 2013.
Cleaster Glass, 97, of Chicago and formerly of Marvell, passed away at her home Feb. 17, 2013. She was born to Thurman and Georgia Murray, who preceded her in death. She was the oldest of 3 children. Siblings Naomi Scaife and Ervin Murray also preceded her in death. Cleaster met Fred Glass and they married in 1938. To this union five children were born, two of whom, Fred Glass Jr. and Roy Glass Sr., preceded her in death. She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Branch Baptist MBC Church until her health began to fail. She worked in the cafeteria at Marvell High School as a cook for several years. She leaves to cherish her loving, kindness and grateful memories, three daughters, Ruthie Chestnut, Katherine Taylor and Paulette Williams (George), all of Chicago; a daughter-in-law, Loistine Glass of Chicago; 13 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; a great great-grandchild; a very special and devoted niece, Lois Greer; her loving nieces Arlene Mitchell and Verlon Valentine; her loving nephew Jerry Murray; Veronica (Sydney) White, play-daughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kincaid Funeral Services. The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at Branch Baptist Church. Rev. L.C. Wright will officiate.
