  • Timothy P. Bumann, president of the National Wound Healing Association gave Rotary an in-depth look at the new wound center in Helena-West Helena. “Helena Regional Medical Center is so excited about this new clinic and the customized treatment that patients will receive,” stated Bumann. Bumann explained that more than 3.5 million Americans suffer from wounds that do not heal after months, or even years, of traditional treatment. Chronic wounds are often painful and upsetting and, when associated with diabetes or poor circulation, they can be very difficult to heal. “There are a lot of different wounds that don't need to be taken to the doctor. However, if a wound such as bed sores, diabetic ulcers, non-healing trauma wounds, bone infections, or thermal burns have taken too much time to heal there is specialized care available,” commented Bumann. “A lot of times people just put up with the wounds and don't realize that there are a lot of special things that can be done to heal those bothersome wounds,” explained Bumann. Bumann explained that a unique team of specialists dedicated to the treatment and healing of chronic, non-healing wounds will work closely with your primary care physician to customize a treatment plan just for you.
