  • Central High School's 9th grade AVID Elective Classroom under the direction of their teacher, Kim Rohrscheib, touched the lives of two preschool classrooms at J.F. Wahl. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination and is a class that focuses on college and career readiness skills such as teaching and community service. Rohrscheib escorted her class of 14 students to visit the pre-K classrooms of Brenda Brown and Diane Carnell to participate with a new program called “Breakfast with Books.” As the preschoolers arrived Monday morning, the ninth grade students who had selected pre-primer books to read to the students greeted them. The little ones were asked higher level thinking questions about Biscuit the puppy and Curious George, among other lovable characters that they heard about. Their next visit is set for March 1, at which time they will celebrate with tales from different books by the famous children's author, Dr. Seuss. This project is funded by Central's SIG 1003 G grant.
