Charlie Jones Sr., 87, of Poplar Grove, passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 at the Helena Regional Hospital.
A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at the First Baptist Church in Poplar Grove. Rev. Moses Tillman will officiate. Burial will immediately follow in the Poplar Grove Cemetery.
Charlie was born Oct. 29, 1925 in Pine Bluff to Lue Cole. At an early, age Charlie showed an interest for construction and he later in life pursued that interest. In 1945, he met and married Lena Mae Bridewell of Helena.
Charlie started a long career of service with C.M. Johnson Co. and finally retiring as Phillips County road supervisor. Charlie enjoyed his retirement. He was a member of the Poplar Grove Male Chorus.
His parents, a brother, Floyd Russell, two sons Roy Lee Jones and Clyde Jones, his son-in-law, Arthur Smith and his wife of 63 years, Lena Mae Jones, preceded him in death.
Charlie leaves two sons, Charlie Jones Jr. and Roosevelt Jones; two daughters, Maylene Jones-Smith and Brenda Jones-Mangrum; 10 grandchildren, Cordella B. Jones, Victoria D. Jones, Audrey Michelle Hayes, Martin A. Smith, Demetrice Taylor, Gordon Taylor, Kenneth Shelton, Kimberly Hamilton, Nicole Taylor; 4 great- grandchildren; Morgan C. Green, Marc Anthony Smith and Nathan M. Hampton; and a host of other family members.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Jackson & Highley Funeral Home Chapel, Helena-West Helena, Friday, Feb. 8. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at the First Baptist Church at Poplar Grove Arkansas.
