March 26 will be set aside to honor all Phillips County teachers. Annie Ruth Pike, who chairs the annual Teacher's Day event in the county, Wednesday formally announced plans for the 2013 celebration.
According to Pike, founder Mattye Maye Woodridge had the first Tuesday of March proclaimed Teacher's Day in Phillips County.
This year's celebration will be held at J.F. Wahl Elementary School, located at 125 Hickory Hill Drive in Helena, starting at 4 p.m.
County Judge Don Gentry is scheduled to sign a proclamation declaring March 26 Teacher's Day in Phillips County. The signing will take place in the judge's office at the courthouse.
District winners of the Teacher of the Year honors from public and private schools will be announced at the ceremony. Literacy and art contests will be held in conjunction with the event and the winners also will be revealed at the ceremony.
Door prizes will be awarded and refreshments will be served, all compliments of the official Teacher's Day Committee.
The keynote speaker will be announced at a later date.
Pike will be retiring as committee chair after 30 years of service. She will receive special recognition at the festivities.
