Joyce Lee Washington, 61, departed this life at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis Jan. 25, 2013. Joyce was born March 30, 1951 in Marvell, the second of six children.
Joyce made her dedication to God at a young age. Upon graduating from Marvell High School, she left to attend the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and obtained a bachelor's degree in early childhood education and later returned for a second bachelor's in social work. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Nu.
Joyce was the most upbeat person that anyone has known. She had a kind heart and a giving spirit and enjoyed life to the fullest. She was always full of fun and laughter and enjoyed lip-syncing.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Rev. Joe Willie Washington Sr., her father, George A. Betts Sr., her mother Ruby Lee Smith and her oldest sister, Thelma “Lois” Griffith.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Corkey Bullard (Latrece) and daughter, Kelfey Johnson-Williams (Lee); five grandchildren, Nicholeous Drew Bullard, Davion Williams, Kamron Williams, Chandler Williams and Nicholas Bullard; six siblings, Garland Betts (Barbara) of Oklahoma, George Betts Jr. (June) of Chicago, Rachel Wilson of Denver, Rickey Prowell Sr. (Cynthia) of Marvell, Angelia Prowell-Cox of Memphis, Marita Betts of Chicago; and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, Feb. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kincaid Funeral Services. The funeral will be Saturday, February 2 at 2: p.m. in Kincaid Funeral Services Auditorium. Rev. Leroy Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in Jackson Memorial Garden.
