An Arkansas House panel has approved a bill that authorizes a new veterans home in the state. Members of the House Committee on Aging, Children and Youth, Legislative and Military Affairs unanimously passed the measure Wednesday. The bill allows the state's Department of Veterans Affairs to establish and run a new facility at a location that would be selected by the department's director. The veterans home would have up to 150 beds. On Tuesday, the Senate voted to create a 22-member task force to study the cost, funding sources and possible location for a veterans home in Little Rock to replace one that closed last year. Democratic Rep. John Edwards is the sponsor of the House measure and says his bill would complement the work of that Senate-approved task force.
