Sister Eva Mae (Eady) Williams, “the sewing lady”, was born Aug. 28, 1929 to Rev. Ed Jr. and Sister Elizabeth (Smith) Eady, both of whom preceded her in the move to heaven on high.
Sister Eva Mae, beloved daughter, faithful sister, kindred cousin, spirited wife, loving mother, passionate aunt, devoted grandmother and endearing friend, beautiful songstress, master seamstress, and eternal humorist, was called home to heavenly rest on Jan. 11, 2013.
Sister Williams had been an icon and fixture in the Marvell area all of her life. She was educated during the Separate But Equal era in the Postelle-Hicks School System. Her family worked and farmed land in this area. She later took work outside of the farm as a cleaning lady.
She married Arufus “Russell” Williams. She became quite the community activist through such organizations as the Women's Auxiliary and the Action Club. News of her talent for sewing spread after her employment at Helena Sportswear in Helena and the Marvell Dry Cleaners. She began to sew and do alterations out of her home.
Sister Eva Mae confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. She was a dedicated member of the Old Mt. Everett Church. When the Old Mt. Everett Church was closed, showing the same dedication to the teachings of the Lord and the precepts of the Bible, she moved her membership to the New Mt. Everett Church where she remained a faith-filled member until the end.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Daisy Keys of New Albany, Miss.; Ophelia Williams of Milwaukee, Wis.; Carolyn Williams of Lewisville, Texas; Clifton Williams, Brenda Williams, and Irrussell (Larry) Edwards, all of Marvell; her siblings, Elzie (Juanita) Eady of Marvell, Martha Tolbert of Kansas City, Mo. and Armelia Wilborn of Marietta, Ga.; her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of dear and loving friends.
