The Harlem Ambassadors are coming to Helena-West Helena.
The internationally acclaimed basketball team and entertainers will visit Phillips County on Feb. 18 to play basketball and perform at Central High School beginning at 7 p.m.
Offering a unique brand of Harlem-style basketball, the Ambassadors feature high-flying slam-dunks, dazzling ball-handling tricks as well as comedy routines. For the Helena-West Helena event the Ambassadors have partnered with The Family Center, Inc. to help raise funds for the Angels of Grace Battered Women's shelter.
While delivering non-stop laughs, the Ambassadors provide a positive message for the kids wherever they play.
“At our shows, we want the kids to know that they're part of our team too,” said Ambassadors coach Lade Majic. “We invite as many kids as we can to come sit on the bench, have a front row seat during the show and get involved in all of the fun stuff we do.”
Unlike other “Harlem- style” basketball teams, the Ambassadors team with local non-profit organizations to conduct community fund-raising events.
The Ambassadors have worked with such organizations as Habitat for Humanity, Boys & Girls Clubs, Big Brothers, big Sisters and the American Red Cross as well as Rotary, Lions and Kiwanis clubs in communities across the country. They perform more than 200 shows a year. The shows have helped raise millions of dollars.
“It feels good to be able to provide quality entertainment and create memories that the fans will take home with them,” stated Ambassadors President Dale Moss. “We're able to give even more when we can help provide funding for Habitat for Humanity house or new computers for the school library. That feels great.”
