  • Several Helena-West Helena city employees discovered their health insurance is “pending” because premium payments from the city had not been paid. According to Jay Hollowell, city councilman, the premium is paid monthly and it has had a drastic effect on the city's finances because currently it is covering almost all of the city employees and their dependants. “Right now, the city doesn't want to jeopardize anyone's coverage but much like everything else, the city is struggling to make ends meet,” commented Hollowell. The city employees, who wish to remain nameless, reported that they have produced the proper paperwork required for the coverage and say that this has been more of an “inconvenience having not been notified by the city of the lack of coverage.” City Clerk Sandi Ramsey confirmed Wednesday that the insurance premium has been paid and the insurance has not been cancelled.
