KIPP's junior and senior boys pulled out a pair of important victories against visiting Sacred Heart Tuesday night. The junior boys rolled to an easy 44-28 win while their senior counterparts posted a 62-50 triumph.
Both wins produced an upward movement in the standings for the respective squads.
The senior boys moved into a tie for first place with Sacred Heart in the 1A 5 North Conference. The KIPPsters are now 16-4 overall for the 2012-13 season.
“Our kids really played smart,” said Head Coach Luke Hammond. “I was very proud of the way they played with the lead.”
Four players scored in double figures for KIPP. Rashad Martin paced the team with a game-high 20 points. Jaterius Montague followed with 13 points. Keairion Jones netted 12 and Bennie Rodgers chipped in with 10.
The junior boys got double-digit performances from Bryan Scott and Roy Covington with 16 and 11 points respectively. The junior boys also are now tied for the conference lead with Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart won the senior girls contest.
KIPP has another big conference outing this Friday night when they travel to Mount Vernon. With the exception of Palestine-Wheatley on Jan. 24, the remainder of KIPP's schedule is against conference foes.
KIPP's next home game is Jan. 15 against Guy-Perkins.
