Five days following the Saturday night shooting death of a local restaurant owner little information has been released to the public regarding the incident. Michael Washington, 40, owner of Burger World and More was shot to death in an apparent attempted robbery at the business. Phillips County Coroner Earnest Larry confirmed that Washington was shot 8 or 9 times. Washington had been in business at the corner of Missouri and Columbia streets location for a number of years. He was well known and respected in that area of the community. He was known throughout Helena-West Helena for providing annual Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners to the needy. The case is still under investigation by the Helena-West Helena Police Department. There are reports circulating that local law enforcement officials are questioning two persons of interest. Numerous attempts by The Helena World to obtain additional facts about the shooting incident from H-WHPD were unsuccessful.
