The Helena Knights of Columbus selected four community groups as recipients of their 2012 Christmas donations. Those groups receiving the gifts were: the Helena-West Helena Boys & Girls Club, the Delta Humane Society and the Freedom for Youth group.
The Knights also selected five children, from the Angel Tree at Phillips Community College, to receive special Christmas presents. Total donations contributed amounted to $1,000. The gifts were presented to representatives from each organization at the Knights' weekly community bingo game on Dec. 18.
The Ladies of St. Mary's Catholic Church group selected four children from the community Angel Tree as part of their Christmas giving. The Ladies provided the children with clothes and toys, which were listed on their "Angel Cards" and distributed by Phillips Community College.
Each year the Ladies of St. Mary's also provide gifts to various shut-ins in the community. The group assists the Knights of Columbus at their bingo games every Tuesday by operating the concession stand, which serves up everything from chili to nachos to hot dogs and a variety of desserts and other goodies.
They, along with the Knights, urge everyone in the community to come out and play.
