Get the new year off on the right foot. Lose weight, help a worth cause and win some cash.
Mid-South Health System, the community mental health center in eastern Arkansas will host their fourth annual Weigh-Down competition promoting a “healthier you” for 2013. The 90-day contest is open to people in Helena-West Helena and 12 other Arkansas communities where Mid-South Health System is located and the company's employees according to Matt Knight, director of education and marketing for MSHS.
“The grand prize for the greatest percentage of weight loss is $500 based on the number of participants,” said Knight. “Other prizes will be awarded. But no prize is as valuable as the feeling of making a positive difference in one's life.”
Knight went on to say that participants also will make a difference in the lives of other people with major needs in their respective communities. All of the money collected above the prize money will go to help the seriously mental ill that are facing a housing crisis. Many are homeless or living in sub-standard conditions and have no resources to meet those needs.
Mid-South Health Systems will be helping people in Phillips, Crittenden, Cross, Lee, Monroe and St. Francis counties.
Weigh-ins in Phillips County begin Friday, Jan. 11 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Mid-South Health Systems at 801 Newman Drive. Weigh-outs will take place at MSHS on Friday, April 5 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
There is a registration fee and it must be paid at the weigh-in.
