Students at Eliza Miller Elementary School got an extended weekend Monday as the result of a broken waterline causing a loss of water pressure. The school and three residences in the Miller Loop area were affected by the waterline break.
As a result of the broken waterline, Ken Fratesi, manager of West Helena Water Utilities issued a precautionary boil water notice.
The boil water notice states, “All affected customers are advised that the water may be unsafe for human consumption. Water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes should be boiled briskly for one minute before use. All ice cubes should be discarded and only boiled water should be used for making ice. As an alternative bottled water may be used.
The 'precautionary boil water notice' will remain in effect until the problem has been corrected, an adequate disinfectant level is established and a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink.
Area residents should listen to local radio and TV stations and the Helena World Website for the latest in updated information.
All questions should be directed to Fratesi at 870-572-6714 or 870-338-0230.
