Elijah Holmes, 62, of Lake View, died at his home Dec. 7, 2012 with family by his side. He was born Dec. 28, 1949 to the late Mrs. Juanita and Mr. Henry Holmes in Tupelo, Miss.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Juanita and Henry Holmes, a daughter, Latoya Holmes, a grandson, Dakhilan Lewis, three brothers, Terry Davis, Charles Adam and Henry Holmes, a sister, Charlie Mae Horton and two cousins, Keshia and Courtney Simmons.
Brother Elijah Homes went to school in Arkansas. He started working at an early age until retirement on June 10, 2010 due to health. Before his health failed, he was baptized in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit on the Nov. 10, 2012.
He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and dear friend.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory, five daughters, Denise, April, and Karonda Holmes, all of Sacramento, Calif., Tyronda Holmes of Jacksonville, Tiffany Jones of Lake View; two sons: Elijah Holmes of St. Louis, Mo. and Sirrandle Bernard (Crystal) Duncan of Helena-West Helena; a godson, Adrian (Tenika) Lamb of Parma, Ohio; 7 sisters, Margie Jones, Martha Morgan and Velma Holmes, all of Oxford, Miss., Sadie (James) Brown of Milwaukee, Wis., Odessa Splunge and Gloria Brown, both of California; three brothers: Ike and Freddie (Carolyn) Holmes of Oxford and Tony Jackson of Milwaukee; 19 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kincaid Funeral Services. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at Kincaid Funeral Services Auditorium. Pastor James Lamb will officiate. Burial will follow in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery.
