Funeral services for Ruby C. Hardison will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at the First Baptist Church at 125 North Coanza in Helena-West Helena. Dr. Nathaniel Hull, pastor, will officiate.
Ruby C. Hardison was born on Sept. 18, 1910 in Little Rock to the late James and Estelle Moore. She was the fourth of 16 children born to this union.
She received her formal education in the Arkansas public school system. She moved to West Helena as a young woman with her family and remained a resident until her death.
She was employed for numerous years at the country club as a cook and later at Bobbie Brooks. After her retirement, she found great joy in babysitting because of her love for children. It was from this nurturing that she received the name, “Momma Ruby.” She has kept countless number of children over the years, which in some cases included generations of the same family.
One of her favorite passions in life was baseball. She was on the local baseball team as a young woman and her passion for baseball never ended. She watched it nonstop on TV. Her favorite team was the St. Louis Cardinals. One of the greatest joys of her life was to celebrate her 100th birthday surrounded by family and friends. She looked forward to that day with great anticipation because she knew that God would grant her request to live to be 100 years old.
Her presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Her husband, Booker T. Hardison in December 1995, preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Linda F. Gold-Caesar of Milwaukee, Wis., a goddaughter, Erma Crawford of Helena-West Helena; three grandchildren, Elder Kenneth (Audrice) Gold of Houston, Texas, Kimberly Gold of Nashville, Tenn. and Kela Gold of Milwaukee; two great grandchildren, Jazmine and Brian; a sister, Thelma Pruitt of Roseville, Mich.; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great- nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews, which includes two special nieces, Barbara (Dan Sr.) Drayton of Harvey, Ill. and DeLois (James III) Bell of Helena-West Helena; two very special young men whom she's loved, adored and spoiled since their birth, Khiren Crawford and Lamar Cokes; and other loving friends.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will follow in Jackson Cemetery at Southland.
