Laura Castoro, a prolific Arkansas writer from Pine Bluff, visited the Ladies Lit Book Club recently to discuss her 2007 book, “Icing on the Cake,” a Contemporary romance novel.
Castoro's book was selected as “the book all Arkansans should read in 2012,” chosen by the Arkansas Center for the Book at the Arkansas State Library in Little Rock. She has been traveling the state of Arkansas, along with Zoe Butler, who heads up ACB, to promote the reading of “Icing on the Cake.”
Castoro was inducted into the Arkansas Writers Hall of Fame in 2005 and will soon publish her 40th novel, “Love on the Line.” Her writing genres include romantic, suspense, sagas, westerns and contemporary romance. She is a popular speaker and writing workshop leader. She also is a recent past president of the Board of the Communications Arts Institute, which oversees the Writers Colony at Dairy Hollow, a working writers' residence program at Eureka Springs.
Castoro entertained 16 book club members as they listened intently as the engaging author talked about her writing career and “Icing on the Cake.” Always an avid reader and lover of books, Castoro said writing comes naturally to her. Castoro is a considered to be a superb storyteller as she celebrates the mature woman and explores family relationships in her novels. She believes humor is the best avenue through which to teach life lessons, to approach serious issues, more so than through sadness or tragedy.
The Marvell Library Book Club would like to invite you to join us the fourth Thursday of every month (except December) at 2 p.m. at their regular book club meetings and encourages everyone to read “Icing on the Cake.”
