  • A former Helena-West Helena police officer indicted in a drug trafficking and corruption scheme has been sentenced to 14 months in prison.
Robert "Bam Bam" Rogers was sentenced Wednesday in federal court in Little Rock. Rogers pleaded guilty to extortion in January and prosecutors dropped other charges filed against him in the investigation known as Operation Delta Blues.
Prosecutors had requested a 16-month sentence but asked the judge to drop it to 14 months because Rogers cooperated with investigators.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Julie Peters says she thought Rogers had "learned his lesson."
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Rogers apologized in court Wednesday for his actions.
Four former officers have pleaded guilty. A fifth officer, Marlene Kalb, has maintained her innocence and is set for trial in December.
