Acting on an anonymous tip, the Marvell mayor and a city police officer uncovered approximately 15 marijuana plants growing the woods just behind an apartment complex in the west Phillips County community.
Marvell Police Chief Vincent Bell told the Helena World Tuesday that the plants ranging in size from 2 and ½ to 3 feet high were found growing in the woods just behind the Senior Haven Apartments just off Highway 49 on July 24.
The tipster told Cutlip that water hoses were running into the woods behind the apartments.
Cutlip and Marvell Police officer Adrian Smith responded to the call and were able to trace the water hose to the plants in the woods. . Additional MPD units were called to the scene along with Chief Bell. Detective Dustin McCluskey and Deputy Sheriff Bennie Phillips also were called to the scene as additional backups.
Law enforcement officials confiscated the plants.
P.C. Sheriff's Department officials report that an investigation is still pending.
Sources close to the investigation say a suspect has been identified.
